Ingredients:
For the Pizza Dough:
- 1 pound (about 450g) pizza dough (you can use store-bought or make your own)
For the Pizza Sauce:
- 1 cup tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon minced garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
- 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Toppings:
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (or use a combination of mozzarella and cheddar)
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 small green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small yellow bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1/2 cup cooked and diced chicken (marinated with some Indian spices for flavor, or use leftover tandoori chicken)
- Fresh cilantro leaves, for garnish
Instructions:
1. Preheat the Oven:
- Preheat your oven to the temperature recommended for your pizza dough (usually around 450°F or 230°C).
2. Prepare the Pizza Sauce:
- In a saucepan, heat 1 teaspoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for a minute until fragrant.
- Add the cumin powder, coriander powder, garam masala, turmeric, salt, and black pepper. Stir for another minute.
- Pour in the tomato sauce or crushed tomatoes, and let the sauce simmer for about 5-7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove from heat.
3. Roll Out the Dough:
- On a floured surface, roll out your pizza dough into the desired shape (round, square, or rectangle) to fit your pizza pan or baking sheet.
4. Assemble the Pizza:
- Transfer the rolled-out dough to a pizza pan or baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Spread the prepared Indian pizza sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a border around the edges for the crust.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the sauce.
- Add the sliced red onion, green bell pepper, red bell pepper, yellow bell pepper, and diced chicken as desired.
5. Bake the Pizza:
- Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake according to the pizza dough's instructions, usually for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
6. Garnish and Serve:
- Remove the Indian pizza from the oven, garnish it with fresh cilantro leaves, and let it cool for a minute or two before slicing.
7. Enjoy:
- Serve your Indian pizza hot and enjoy the delicious fusion of Indian and Italian flavors!
